Unit 1: Apply Digital Design Production
Obj 1.01 - History & Careers: Career Action Plan
In this assignment, I researched a specific career: Video Game Designer. I had to find details about this career, like what the designers actually do and what their qualifications are. If I became a video game designer, I likely have to have a college degree in the field of computer modeling, as well as have experience from an internship, to be hired at an entry-level job. I also learned their average income of $78,790 a year, which is a solid, life-supporting income. It turns out that North Carolina is not a huge video game state, so there aren't a ton of jobs in this state, but there are many in states like Washington. This assignment helped show me what would be in my future if I chose this profession and continued down the digital art path.
Obj 1.02 - Hardware & Software: Building for Creativity
In the lead up assignments for this Building for Creativity project, I learned about hardware and software, specifically the items used for digital art. For this project, we took the career we had chosen in the Career Action Plan assignment-Video Game Designer for me-and we picked out the hardware and software needed to build a PC for that career. Some important things to consider in this were the peripherals needed, as well as the software needed, since the software determines what hardware we needed. We were also on a tight budget, but we could move funds around from the software budget and the peripheral budget to the hardware budget, which I definitely needed to do. For a video game design career, you need some good graphics, as well as tools to help make the graphics, like Maya and a drawing tablet. All in all, I learned what hardware and software is needed to make a video game design career work.
